What they reject are Revolution and Redress, because that would mean facing the pain. Notice how some evangelicals use the term "rebellious". T

A short video inspired by Reason, Tolerance and Enlightenment values
Hi Everyone, I would like to share with you a charitable project, designed to spread a positive philosophy of non-theism whilst supporting a rational world view based on reason, tolerance and individual freedom. Words Engraved is a short video series, created to educate and support critical thinking. The first video is in English and uses the rare craft of freehand stonemasonry to expre

May I start a conversation here with a link to one of my Youtube videos? I have not found a rule against it here but I want to double check before I do. If I am allowed to do so, I will actively participate, in the conversation.

Islamic stupidity at work
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/facebook/m...book-post/7796 An indonesian man declares himself an atheist on facebook, and is then attacked by an angry mob at his work. The indonesian government, in all its islamic wisdom, decides to raise charges against the victim, on the account on him being a filthy atheist. The victim faces a maximum penalty of five years in jail. Let this be a reminder to al

What evidence might count...
Atheists, when discussing with theists usually point out that the onus of proof, quite correctly, is on the theist to show there is a god and not the other way round. Once pointed out there usually follows pages and pages of discussion that gets no where rather slowly. So.... What evidence might count towards showing that a god might exist? An invisible being is obviously not one we can see but

Difference between strong and weak atheist
In my opinion there is really no difference between the two. I think the typical new atheist proposes they're a weak atheist (or 6 on Dawkins' scale) to attempt to display their position as non-dogmatic or 'open'. A common position is to claim the inability to disprove a negative (fairies, leprechauns etc) as akin to disproving a god, so they cannot 'know' that a god does not exsit. I would

Not impressed
Some people do not have the charisma and/or brains to be succesfull criminals. The people in this clip are not impressed by the robber and it's obviously never a good idea to rob a group of drunk young people; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6h6B64gRaU EDIT: Whoops ... I meant to post this thread in the chit chat section ... sorry. Can a mod move it?

Deathbed conversion
One of my longest friends died yesterday surrounded by family and friends. I was somewhat surprised when I heard that he was an atheist, because we had never discussed religion, although he certainly knew my position. In the last few days he had called for a priest to arrange his funeral, and he composed a letter to be given to the priest after his death. It begins with "I believe in Jesus

The Nescafe deal
This awesome joke was posted on my workplace's newsgroup. I thought that it represents the changing stances of religion quite accurately. The top marketing director of Nescafe manages to arrange a meeting with the Pope at the Vatican. After receiving the papal blessing, the Nescafe official whispers, 'Your Eminence, I have some business to discuss. We at Nescafe have an offer for you. Nescafe

Faith is Greater than Reason
It is one thing to believe that which is right in front of you. I believe the sky is blue. I believe there are alligators in the lake next to my house. I believe gravity exists. There is no choice but to believe these things, and it is a very natural reaction to make reasonable judgments based on such knowledge that is so obvious to me. If I go swimming in the lake, I might lose a foot. If I dr

Of Concepts and Abstraction
Hi all, The forum seemed to be going a bit slow, so I thought about throwing in a new topic. First of all, this topic has to do with epistemology, i.e. what is knowledge, how do we know etc. I don't know if this point is relevant, but I'm mentioning it just the same. Now, as far as I understand, there are two main types of cognitive faculties i.e. methods of gaining knowledge and unders

Is moral objectivity a red herring?
Is moral objectivity a red herring? I support this contention with the following arguments: Claims by the religious to absolute or objective morality on the basis of “the word of God” are bogus if gods do not exist and if they do such claims are defeated by the Euthyphro dilemma. Atheists, while realising religious claims are bogus, have been influenced to claim objectivity for some of th

Taking a Break--so to speak
I’m not sure there’s a lot more to be gained in the atheist forums at this point. I’m working on a book that I will publish in paperback and Kindle/Nook, and I really think I need to concentrate on that and also building up posts on my blog. I’m also constructing a website where I will put videos and reviews of atheist forums and blogs, and probably book reviews, too. More exposure in the forums n

Technical Documentation
A major challenge faced by most organizations, is to ensure their documentation is accurate, up-to-date and communicates the right message in a clear and concise manner, to a target audience. It is also important that the documentation be structured in such a way that maintaining and updating it does not become time consuming and resource intensive. And it’s proven that a picture conveys thoughts

All Hail The Bloodthirsty One!
The Bloodthirsty Vampire The Bible reveals an important, yet often overlooked trait of God's nature and that is his thirst for blood. From the beginning of his dealings with man he has shown his preference for spilled blood; he accepted Able's offering of sheep's blood and rejected Cain's offering of grains and plants (Genesis 4:3-5). God has told man that the shedding of blood is required to b
