            <title>New report: Civil society plays critical role in policymaking that aims to tackle climate change</title>
            <link>http://tcktcktck.org/2012/05/new-report-civil-society-plays-critical-role-in-policymaking-that-aims-to-tackle-climate-change/?utm_source=rss&amp;utm_medium=rss&amp;utm_campaign=new-report-civil-society-plays-critical-role-in-policymaking-that-aims-to-tackle-climate-change</link>
            <description>

As the international climate negotiations are moving at a slow pace, developing countries are creating new policies to deal with climate change; a new report by a coalition of NGOs demonstrates that civil society is critical to policy processes that aim to tackle climate change and protect the poorest and most vulnerable communities from its impacts.

Civil society plays key roles in pushing for new laws, programmes, policies or strategies on climate change, in holding governments to account on their commitments; in identifying the lack of joined-up government responses to climate change; and in ensuring that national policy making does not forget the poor and vulnerable.

These are the findings of a report launched today at the UN climate talks in Bonn by a coalition of more than 20 civil society networks in developing countries, with support from the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) and CARE through the Climate Capacity Consortium.

The report ? Southern voices on climate policy choices: civil society advocacy on climate change ? provides an analysis of the tools and tactics advocacy groups use to influence policy responses to climate change.

            <title>Eleven prominent donors dump climate-denying Heartland Institute</title>
            <link>http://tcktcktck.org/2012/05/eleven-prominent-donors-dump-climate-denying-heartland-institute/?utm_source=rss&amp;utm_medium=rss&amp;utm_campaign=eleven-prominent-donors-dump-climate-denying-heartland-institute</link>
            <description>

Next week the cream of the world?s climate deniers will descend on Chicago for the Heartland Institute?s latest annual sceptic-fest. The headline for the conference is ?Real Science, Real Choices.?  That?s more fact-twisting propaganda from Heartland that has pushed climate denial for years.

The Institute was hoping for a bumper conference that would help it push its climate denial agenda, its credibility and funding. But that looks like it is not going to happen. The conference will take place as Heartland is under pressure like never before.

The Institute is facing increasing financial and political isolation. Ever since the Institute ran its ?Unabomber advert? earlier this month, its sponsors and donors have finally woken up to the realities of its dangerous climate denial extremism.

They are now dumping Heartland faster than rats on a fast sinking ship.  So far eleven companies have said they will no longer fund Heartland, including Eli Lilly, BB&amp;amp;T, Pepsi, GM, State Farm, Diageo, the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers, Renaissance Re, XL Group, Allied World Assurance, and USAA..

?More than 100,000 Americans are telling corporations to stop polluting our democracy by supporting organizations like the Heartland Institute,? said Daniel Souweine, Campaign Director of Forecast the Facts. ?Heartland?s remaining funders would be wise to heed their calls. Heartland?s radical agenda stains the reputation of any business that wants to be considered a responsible corporate citizen.?

            <description>

Venlig hilsen Mike

            <title>Anmeldelse: Minecraft (XBLA)</title>
            <link>http://slagmark.com/gaming/?p=16696</link>
Tjek Slagmarks anmeldelse af spillet her!

+ Ekstremt tilgængeligt.+ Ganske atmosfærisk med få virkemidler.+ Stor mulighed for at præge sin egen spiloplevelse.
+ God multiplayer funktionalitet.

Grafik
11/20 | Grimt per design, men samtidig stilfuldt ikonisk.

Lyd
15/20 | Lækker og eventyrlig musik, og god stemning.

Gameplay

&amp;nbsp;
&amp;nbsp;
Nyt i Xbox-versionen
&amp;nbsp;
&amp;nbsp;

&amp;nbsp;
&amp;nbsp;

&amp;nbsp;
&amp;nbsp;
&amp;nbsp;

&amp;nbsp;
&amp;nbsp;
Minecraft XBL trailer

&amp;nbsp;
&amp;nbsp;

&amp;nbsp;
&amp;nbsp;
Konklusion
&amp;nbsp;
&amp;nbsp;

This week?s climate action comes from nearly every region of our planet. Read on to learn about the state of health of our precious blue marble, why nearly 2 million people are fighting to save the Amazon forests and how seven teenagers are taking on the US government for climate crimes against future generations.
WWF releases Living Planet Report

?We are living as if we have an extra planet at our disposal. We are using 50 per cent more resources than the Earth can sustainably produce and unless we change course, that number will grow fast ? by 2030 even two planets will not be enough.?

Those are the scary words of WWF International Director General Jim Leape on the findings of his organizations Living Planet Report. A biennial survey of the Earth?s health, the 2012 Living Planet report found that the ever-growing demand for resources by a growing population is putting tremendous pressures on our planet?s biodiversity and is threatening our future security, health and well-being.

The report was launched on Tuesday with the help of ESA astronaut André Kuipers, who gave a poignant reminder for why the health of our planet should be the primary goal of every government.

WWF, Avaaz and Greenpeace team up to fight for the Amazon
Three of TckTckTck?s largest partner organizations are jointly mobilizing their 22 million supporters to call on Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff to veto the Forest Code bill passed by the House of Deputies.

WWF, Greenpeace and Avaaz say the proposed changes to the Forest Code would threaten recent successes in reducing forest loss and compromise efforts to tackle corruption in the Amazon region.

Already nearly 1.8 million people from around the world have signed the shared petition calling on President Rousseff to veto the proposed Forest Code, and the three groups hope to raise that number as high as 2 million in the coming days.

President Rousseff has not reacted publicly nor indicated whether she intends to fight the measure since it was passed on 25 April. Independent research organizations estimate the new legislation could lead to the loss of up to 76.5 million hectares (190 million acres) of forest, which translates to 28 billion tonnes of added CO2 in the atmosphere. This would make it impossible for Brazil to reach its carbon reduction targets, a potential embarrassment for the host of the Rio +20 Summit in June. Rousseff has until 25 May to veto all or part of the bill, or allow it to become law.

Click here to sign the petition, or here to leave a message on the Facebook wall of Rousseff?s political party, Partidodos Trabalhadores.

Canadian environmental orgs to Black out, Speak Out
The continued assault on the rights and freedoms of Canada?s environmental watchdogs and organizations by Stephen Harper?s Conservative government has pushed groups to a breaking point. After the government announced it would seek to reduce the ability of environmental organizations to intervene in federal policy decisions (such as the Enbridge Northern Gateway Tar Sands pipeline), Canadian groups formed a united front to fight back. On June 4, TckTckTck partners including CPAWS, the David Suzuki Foundation, Ecojustice, Environmental Defense, Equiterre, Greenpeace, Sierra Club, WWF and the Pembina Institute will all darken their websites in protest against efforts to silence the voices of environmentally-minded Canadians.

As they say ?All of our voices are at risk, and silence is not an option.?

iMatter youth take on US Government in historic legal battle
Last Friday, Alec Loorz and six other youth from five US states exercised their constitutional rights by visiting all three branches of government, calling for action against climate change on behalf of their entire generation. These youth leaders are part of the iMatter Campaign, and are all plaintiffs in the Alec L v Jackson lawsuit, for failing to protect the atmosphere as a public trust. As Alec says in his op-ed which we posted earlier last week:

?But the reality is, this case is a fight between those who make money from the way things are and the entire youngest generation who will not. It?s profits vs. people; short term interests vs. the future of generations yet to come; greed vs. sustainability. In fact, we?re not even fighting ?against? the fossil fuel lobbyists at all, we are fighting for them. We?re fighting on behalf of their children.?

The concept behind their lawsuit is simple. In it, the US government would accept responsibility for failing to act on climate change, and then commit to a specific plan for climate recovery, using standards set by climatologist Dr. James Hansen. The hearing for the Motion to Dismiss was last Friday. While we won?t know the results for at least another week, the TckTckTck alliance is extremely honoured to count iMatter and Our Children?s Trust, two of the plaintiffs, among our members. To find out more about iMatter?s lawsuit and their important work, visit their website: imattermarch.org

Climate Impacts Day roundup
On Saturday May 5, our partners at 350.org brought together thousands of people at more than 1,000 events in more than 100 countries worldwide to connect the dots between climate change and the very real impacts of extreme weather happening right now. Some of the standout events from the day included:

	London occupiers connecting the dots between climate impacts, fossil fuels and finances, with a day of talks, games of ?extreme? Twister and film screenings.
	Underwater activists hold a banner in front of a damaged coral reef in the vulnerable Marshall Islands. Rising temperatures and increased CO2 uptake are raising the acidity of the ocean, which bleaches and ultimately kills fragile coral reefs.
	One hundred youth from the Jordan Valley, Amman, and Salt, gathered at the shores of the Dead Sea, organized by Friends of the Earth Middle East. They held balloons to symbolize the dramatic 26m drop in the Dead Sea water levels since the 1960s. The balloons were red, warning of the immediate need for action, and extended to different heights up to 26 meters, demonstrating the continuously declining water levels throughout the years.

But don?t take our word for it! Watch their video roundup to see the day come together:

            <title>Expert Spotlight: Kristin Casper, Jury member for Date with History</title>
            <link>http://tcktcktck.org/2012/05/expert-spotlight-kristin-casper-jury-member-for-date-with-history/?utm_source=rss&amp;utm_medium=rss&amp;utm_campaign=expert-spotlight-kristin-casper-jury-member-for-date-with-history</link>
            <description>&amp;nbsp;

As we race closer and closer to Rio+20, the TckTckTck team is pleased to share an interview with one of the advisors helping our partner organizations make the most of this environmental milestone.

Kristin Casper is legal counsel for Greenpeace International. She advises on international environmental law and legal aspects of campaigning in the areas of climate change, energy, toxics, and water. She is advocating for countries to support the expansion of public participation rights and the recognition of the right to a clean and healthy environment at the 2012 Rio Earth Summit.

In this interview she chats with us about her experiences at the 2002 Earth Summit in Johannesburg, her messages to youth attending Rio+20 and what she?d say to world leaders if she had 2 minutes to speak.

TCK: You are a jury member for the Date with History competition, what struck you when you watched the videos from the finalists?

KRISTIN CASPER: Many of the contributors called themselves global citizens. This perspective is essential for addressing global problems. For example, climate change impacts have no boundaries. They do not need visas or travel documents. One country?s pollution devastates and can destroy a nation thousands of miles away. While governments are failing to cooperate in reaching an agreement that will prevent current and future climate damage, today?s youth are connecting online and in the streets to demand climate action. These global citizens will overcome today?s global problems.

TCK: Are there any common themes or highlights from the various speeches that you can expand on?

KRISTIN CASPER: A few words that describe all of the finalists: hopeful, intelligent, passionate, concerned, and action-oriented. Let me give three concrete examples:

	With dictionaries and books in the background, Timothy from Ghana gave a comprehensive overview of the unfulfilled commitments made by governments 20 years ago. His intellectual prowess will make him a future sustainability leader in Ghana and beyond.
	Annie from the UK did not mince words. At the start of her video she solemnly stated that ?at the time I am 26 all of the Arctic ice may have melted.? This deeply concerned youth reminds us that harm is not in future. It is her generation that will bear the brunt of the imminent ecological collapse due to climate change.
	Yet the finalists all gave a vision of hope. Yugratna from India is a climate justice activist seeking to connect the dots between climate, power, poverty, energy, food, and water because these issues cannot be viewed in isolation. She reminds us that as children we ?raised trouble? to get what we wanted and that youthful spirit is still in us. Her speech made me want to take to the streets and demand action on climate change.

TCK: You have previous experience of UN Sustainability conferences, can you tell us about your experience 10 years ago in Johannesburg and some of the challenges and triumphs from that time?

KRISTIN CASPER: One of the triumphs of our work ten years ago is the massive uptake of renewable energy (although not nearly the amount of what is required to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to a safe level). At the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development, I had the honor of speaking on behalf of Youth as a participant in the partnership plenary on renewable sources of energy, conservation, energy efficiency, and climate change. Youth seized this important platform to call on leaders to commit to a clean renewable energy standard, phase out of fossil fuel subsidies, and support the Kyoto Protocol. We are still waiting on them to phase out fossil fuel subsidies, they have promised to but there still is no date, no deadline.

Before the 2002 World Summit, I posted a blog on Grist which contains the Youth demands from 10 years ago. We called on governments to make renewable energy account for 10 percent of all energy use by 2010. So where do we stand now? Renewable energy investment has reached record levels, an estimated $260 billion in 2011. Yet governments continue to encourage environmental and social destruction with close to US$ 1 trillion dollars-worth of harmful subsidies a year, covering everything from fossil fuels to fertilizers and fisheries.

TCK: What were the challenges from that time?

KRISTIN CASPER: Public participation was a challenge 10 years ago and remains one today. On several occasions, youth in Johannesburg were prevented from communicating to decision-makers and the media because of the unreasonable restrictions on our rights to freedom of expression and to peacefully assemble.

For example, the youth delegation hosted by Greenpeace International was detained by South African police because they were allegedly demonstrating on (or next to BMW?s display) without permission, despite their attempts to get permission for several days. This did not stop Jan Pronk, the special envoy to the summit of the UN secretary-general, and Bob Brown, an Australian senator, from supporting the peaceful demonstration. Let?s hope the Brazilian and UN authorities will respect fundamental rights by providing youth ample opportunities to effectively communicate their demands to leaders and the media.

The distance between citizens and leaders feels like it is increasing, feels like the walls are getting higher and the chance of getting heard smaller. Our leaders need to hear the voice of youth. They need to be reminded of those they hold the world in stewardship for.

TCK: What should young people who are heading to Rio+20 expect and what advice would you give them?

KRISTIN CASPER: Long days, long nights, and the possibility of a disappointing outcome. But, it will be a fun, exciting, and life changing experience.

Participating in such a massive conference is like running a marathon. I know this because I?ve done both. I advise that you pace yourself and make sure to have lots of energy for the end when the leaders will be desperately trying to come to some publicly acceptable ?agreement.? The voice of the youth could potentially change the outcome, or call it like it is - a greenwashed outcome which fails to deliver the transformational change required to end the social and ecological ills of our time. As youth, it is important not to pretend to be diplomats. Don?t get bogged down in details and remember this is no time to accept compromise. This is your life we?re talking about.

The conference will be a life changing event. You will meet people who will become life-long friends and mentors. It will solidify your commitment to work on social and environmental change. My vision to become an international environmental lawyer holding countries and corporations accountable took shape at the 2002 Summit. Looking back, it was a watershed moment for me, and I will be forever grateful for the experience I gained during those two weeks in Johannesburg.

TCK: Rio+20 covers a number of issues and themes, some of which match Greenpeace campaign priorities such as Forests and Oceans. What are the Greenpeace expectations for this summit and what will you be communicating to your supporters around Rio+20?

KRISTIN CASPER: At Rio+20, Greenpeace and other members of civil society will be telling governments about the Future We Want.

In reality the Rio+20 conference will not deliver the transformative change needed. It will not place equity and ecology in the concert with economy to define the Future We Want: one that is healthy, wealthy, and fair.

We will be telling our supporters that the future will not be dictated by a miscellany of world leaders in Rio over three days in June. We will be calling on people around the world to join the growing movements that understand the links between economy, equity and ecology. Without public pressure, consumer pressure, and active participation of informed and engaged citizens our future, our children?s future, sad to say will be bleak ? the choice is ours!

TCK: If you have 2 minutes to tell the world about the future you want, what are some of the things you would say?

KRISTIN CASPER: Seven months ago I gave birth to a beautiful little girl. This new life has made me even more committed to creating positive change. I want a future for my daughter that is fair, that is clean, that is green and that is sustainable. I?m a lawyer, so let me put this into a legal context.

A clean and healthy environment is a basic human right. Human rights can?t be fully enjoyed if there is ongoing environmental degradation. And the problem of environmental degradation cannot be resolved unless countries take seriously the responsibility to protect, promote, and realize human rights. This past March, the UN Human Rights Council adopted a resolution on Human Rights &amp;amp; Environment establishing the role of an independent expert to identify and promote the best practices relating to the use of human rights obligations to strengthen environmental protection. Let?s see international recognition of the right to a clean and healthy environment.

Every individual has the right to effectively participate in decision-making. The UNECE Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental has been described by Kofi Annan as ?the most ambitious venture in the area of ?environmental democracy? so far undertaken under the auspices of the United Nations.? The regional convention is playing an increasingly important role regionally and should be embraced globally. World leaders should support a global public participation convention.

This future won?t be delivered by a last minute deal struck by negotiators. This future will be created by people (like those attending the Rio+20) in the streets, during side events, and at the ballot box back home. It was in Johannesburg where I met people who encouraged me to stand up for people and nature. I?m hopeful because there is a whole new generation of youth ready to lead us toward the future we all want and deserve.</description>

Description
Inspiration Dave is a platformer. You control a character on a mission to find inspiration through musical notes throughout whatever world he lives in &amp;#8211; via going through 33 small platforming stages, with three goals: Finish the stage, collect all 20 notes, and finish the stage 100% very quickly! Only finishing the stage is necessary. There are unlockable secrets for how many notes you collect and stages you finish quickly. I wrote the soundtrack and created the graphics myself, for better or worse!
Made over 12/11-3/12, but mostly 2012.

            <title>Den Store Professor vender tilbage!</title>
            <link>http://www.boombamblog.dk/2012/05/den-store-professor-vender-tilbage/</link>

            <title>Hanna</title>
            <link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/Filmtips/~3/fy5KVdyN058/hanna.html</link>

            <title>Alec Loorz: Why I?m suing the US government (UPDATED)</title>
            <link>http://tcktcktck.org/2012/05/alec-loorz-why-im-suing-the-us-government-updated/?utm_source=rss&amp;utm_medium=rss&amp;utm_campaign=alec-loorz-why-im-suing-the-us-government-updated</link>
            <description>

My name is Alec Loorz. I am 17 years old, and I?ve been a climate change activist ever since I was 12. I started my own non profit called Kids vs Global Warming when I was 13, was trained by Al Gore and The Climate Project when I was 14, and I?ve spent my entire teenaged life speaking out about climate change, calling for changes in our homes and communities, encouraging my peers to use energy efficient light bulbs and buy solar panels and even calling for a youth revolution to raise our voices against climate change.

But recently I?ve been going through a much deeper level of awakening. I?m realizing that even though it?s incredibly important to reduce our carbon footprints and raise our voices, the issue is bigger than that.

The reality is, we as a society value money, power, and convenience over nature and the survival of future generations. I believe that if we want to solve climate change, this mindset is what we need to shift. We need to learn to live as if our future matters. And this transition will take much more than changing light bulbs. The time has come for something big, something that will change the system at its very core.

So, along with a group of other young leaders, and with the support of a few awesome lawyers, we are suing the government, for valuing short term interests over the wellbeing and survival of this and every generation to come.

The case is based on a legal theory called Atmospheric Trust Litigation (ATL), developed by Professor Mary Wood at the University of Oregon. It?s founded on the Public Trust Doctrine and Commons Law, which are fundamental to the US Constitution. ATL basically states that our government has the legal responsibility to protect the atmosphere for present and future generations. We are asking that our leaders commit to a climate recovery plan based on the research of a group of the world?s top climate scientists, headed by Dr. James Hansen.

At the hearing last month, the industry lawyers and the judge all agreed that this case is of national importance, and if we succeed, it will result in significant emissions reductions. We?re not asking for money, we?re not demanding power, we don?t want to take away the rights and privileges we have as Americans to make money... we are simply asking that our government begin to value the atmosphere as a public trust to be protected for future generations. This lawsuit actually has the chance to make a real measurable difference in the fight against climate change.

It may at first seem like an insane losing battle... the entire fossil fuel industry and the US government against a handful of youth. But the reality is, this case is a fight between those who make money from the way things are and the entire youngest generation who will not. It?s profits vs. people; short term interests vs. the future of generations yet to come; greed vs. sustainability. In fact, we?re not even fighting ?against? the fossil fuel lobbyists at all, we are fighting for them. We?re fighting on behalf of their children.

Yes, we are where we are today because of fossil fuels. Yes, I have a cell phone and electricity and hot water because of fossil fuels. I am extremely grateful for that. But the reality is... unfortunately for all of us, a society that depends on destroying our natural landscape and putting the lives of our children in danger, and can only cope with it by turning away from it; by shopping and watching TV and hiding in denial is, at the very core, a doomed society. And if we don?t break out of this sickness now, it?s going to be a difficult and painful future for all of us.

The transition is possible. And this lawsuit actually has the potential to be the moment we?ve all been waiting for... the moment we can finally push past the politics and debate that?s keeping us hopelessly stuck, and get to the core of what is really at stake: the lives, hope, and happiness of every generation alive and yet unborn.

This is a David vs. Goliath battle, the strong vs. the weak, the powerful vs. the underdogs... but in battles like this in the past, has Goliath ever actually won?
