At the SXSW interactive conference at Austin, Texas, co-founder of Instagram gave a brief pre-look at their upcoming Android app, while stating that ?In some ways, it?s better than our iOS app. It?s crazy?. Now, we never really understood how it could take Instagram so long to build, what seems like a pretty simple app for Android users. It received great recognition by Apple users very quickly, so why not expand while it was peaking in popularity? Well, co-founder Mike Krieger disagrees with me on the long wait and says; ?I don?t think it took us so long. We just had priorities. Had we tried to be both on Android and iPhone at the same time, it would?ve been tough to innovate in the way that we have?. Having priorities is important, and starting out with the iPhone definitely makes sense, but to me it doesn?t seem like they developed it that much from when I first downloaded the app about a year ago, and for that reason I just don?t get how it can take them more then 17 months (from when they released the app at the Apple Store) to make it accessible for Android users. Strange, as 49.6% of smartphone users use the Android platform (according to ansonalex.com), which is almost 300million people – not insignificant! Up until now, I must be honest and admit that I actually thought the Instagram app would never be accessible for the Android market at all. The reason is mainly that I’m not very updated tech-wise, so I was actually convinced that they were doing sort of the same thing as the video game HALO and XBOX; Not making it available for the competitors. HALO is owned by Microsoft (who made the XBOX) while the Instagram app is not owned by Apple, but if Apple had been smart back when the Instagram company was still growing (and not extremely expensive), they would have made the app a permanent PRO for consumers, when choosing between Android and iPhone and bought the damn company! Overall I?m happy that all Android users can now enjoy what?s without a doubt my favorite app, BUT I?m still not buying the ?priority? excuse being the reason for the Instagram crews? slack on development. Formula 1 has found itself in one such dilemma over the issue of holding the Bahrain Grand Prix. Middle East has been a hot spot of political uprising for the past one year. 2011 saw Egypt, Tunisia, Syria, and Libya under a massive cloud of political unrest and rioting against the authorities. The snowball effect took over Bahrain in 2011 as well and caused a furore before the season opening Grand Prix as human rights agencies raised concerns and requested a boycott. At first Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone took notice of all the media attention the country was getting over the tensions and decided to postpone the race. A commission was designed to visit the country and analyse the situation. The commission visited the country and came back with a positive feedback and gave a go ahead for the race to be held. When it was announced that the Bahrain GP will be held, journalists and local human rights agencies caused a furore of how Formula 1 should not give support to an unjust regime by touring the country. There were some concerns raised by teams and drivers as well, the Aussie driver Mark Webber was the first one to publicly speak against going to Bahrain. It was after a special letter sent to FIA by Bahrain?s local authorities which stated that it would be unsafe at a time like this to hold the event that Ecclestone finally decided to drop the race. Since 2011, things have settled down considerably and the Bahrain GP is scheduled to be held in April of 2012. The Human Rights Center in Bahrain have raised concerns again and called upon the teams to rethink their visit and boycott the race. They say that if the race takes place it will let the government portray an image of normality when the situation is anything but that. It is no hidden fact that Ecclestone is in strong favour of holding the race just by the fact that it holds so much financial gain, other than that Bahrain brings in a lot of attention as it is the centre of Formula 1 in the Middle East. This causes a difficult dilemma for the F1 Supremo, but as he mention in one of his candid statements, that if F1 were to assess and analyse all that is going on in the world before holding a Grand Prix event there would not be any Grands Prix races other than Switzerland. Recently an All Party Group from UK parliament wrote an open letter in the Times magazine in support of holding the Bahrain Grand Prix. The letter raised the positives that can come out of having the race in the country at such a time. It also pointed out how the country has reformed over the little time since the uprising. The letter will definitely give some leverage to Ecclestone to base his support for holding the event, but only time will tell whether the race will go ahead as planned or face the same result as it did last year. For the sake of the sport and the fans in the country it would be unfortunate if politics once again ruins the excitement and unity the sport can bring out of a nation in turmoil. The discovery of the frog was published in the journal PLoS One and the researchers proclaimed the frog, Paedophryne amanuensis, as the world’s smallest spinal animal. The Paedophryne amanuensis adult frogs are about three-tenths of an inch long in size. To a naked eye, they are a millimetre or so smaller than the smallest carp found on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. Due to the small size of the frog, Christopher Austin, herpetologist and environmental biologist in the Louisiana State University, had to enlarge close-up photos to describe them. Austin discovered these tiny frogs in August 2009 during his trip to Papua New Guinea in order to study the extreme diversity of the wildlife on the island. A scientist and president-elect of the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists at the University of Arkansas, Steven J. Beaupre, stated that sizes of male and female vertebrates are very different in many species so it is reasonable that the world’s smallest vertebrate may end up being either the males or the females of some specific fish or amphibian species and the frogs are a significant discovery. He wrote in his email, "The discovery of two new frog species comes as great news against the background of more prevalent accounts of tropical amphibian extinction.? He further said that knowing about such tiny creatures and their ecology helps scientists better understand the advantages and disadvantages of extreme small size and how such extremes evolve. Fundamentally, these tiny vertebrates provide a window on the principles that constrain animal design. According to Austin, these frogs hatch out as hoppers rather than tadpoles and live on the ground. Han er i alt blevet nomineret til 79 Grammy Awards, hvor af han har vundet 27 af dem. Der er derfor tale om en af de helt store kanoner, som Aba & Simonsen har fået lov at sample. Foruden Thriller-albummet, som blandt andet indeholder sangene ?Beat It? og ?Billie Jean?, har han også produceret velgørenhedssangen ?We Are The World? fra 1985. Nummeret som Aba & Simonsen har fået lov at sample er soundtracket fra Austin Powers ?Soul Bossa Nova?, og den bliver udgivet d. 30. januar.
