‘BODY FINDER’-serien: Det er virkelig sv�rt at skrive en lige s� god efterf�lger, n�r man som Kimberly Derting har skrevet et s� godt f�rste bind i en serie som ‘Ekko fra de d�de’. Historien i ‘Ekkoets forbandelse’ begynder ogs� vanvittigt sp�ndende, men allerede midtvejs bliver der delt for mange spor ud til l�seren. B�gerne i ‘Body Finder’-serien udg�r en sammenh�ngende historie. Hvis du ikke har l�st den f�rste bog, spolerer du handlingen, hvis du l�ser videre!) Violet og Jay er endelig blevet rigtige k�rester og har dagligt nogle hede “baseball lektioner”, som de �ver hjemme i sofaerne hos hinanden. First og Second Base er opn�et. Kyssene er virkelig dybe, og Violet f�r stadig k�mpesommerfugle i maven, n�r Jay i kantinen smyger h�nden op under hendes bluse og strejfer hende over l�nden. Jays intense blik g�r hende stadig sm�kforelsket, og hun begynder ogs� s� sm�t at kunne m�rke stik af jalousi, n�r skolens nye pige, Megan, kommer lidt for t�t p� Jay. Alt er perfekt, eller … n�sten perfekt. Selv om de har aftalt at vente med Fourth Base/Homerun (sex), s� stopper Jay altid kysseriet lige n�r det er ved at blive rigtig hedt. Jays Strike Outs g�r Violet vanvittig. Hun f�ler sig som manden i forholdet, n�r de ikke kan g� videre til Third Base, der som bekendt foreg�r under b�ltestedet. Ganske hurtigt bliver Violets fokus dog flyttet fra de intime gl�der, for p� en havnetur med veninden Chelsea f�r hun pludselig �t af sine meget kraftige signaler fra et d�dsaftryk. Violet sporer det til en containerpark og helt pr�cist til en enorm r�d skibscontainer, der er lukket og forseglet med h�ngel�s. Hun har ingen mulighed for at f� bekr�ftet sit indtryk. Desuden ville det ogs� v�re katastrofalt, hvis sladretanten Chelsea opdagede Violets evner. Violet er sikker i sin sag. Det er ikke bare aftrykket efter et d�dt dyr. Der ligger et d�dt menneske i containeren. Selv om det strider mod al fornuft og samtlige aftalte regler med Jay, k�rer Violet alene ud til containerparken n�ste nat. Sindssygt sp�ndende ‘Ekkoets forbandelse’ begynder lige s� sindssygt sp�ndende som f�rste bind i serien. Jeg blev fuldst�ndig grebet, og jeg havde faktisk glemt den krybende uhyggelige stemning Kimerly Derting er s� dygtig til at skabe. Beskrivelserne af b�de f�lelser og omgivelser er s� fine, sproget er vidunderligt varieret, og Nete Harsberg er bare pokkers dygtig til at overs�tte det hele til dansk. Ordene er s� velvalgte, s�tningerne s� smukt sammensatte, at jeg ofte m� l�se de samme beskrivelser igen og igen – simpelthen for at nyde dem og lidt for at lure af, hvordan man skriver s� godt. Uddrag af ‘Ekkoets forbandelse’ Med rystende h�nder trykkede hun hurtigt nummeret. Der l�d et d�mpet klik, og s� … I den anden ende l�d en rolig kvindestemme: “Alarmcentralen, kan jeg hj�lpe?” Violet t�vede. Det her er en fejltagelse, t�nkte hun. Jeg m� hellere l�gge p�. Hendes tommelfinger hang i luften lige over afbryderen. “Alarmcentralen, hvordan kan jeg hj�lpe?” Hun t�vede stadig, men hun blev n�dt til at foretage sig noget. “Hallo?” sagde hun spagt, mens hendes hjerne r�sede i tusind forskellige retninger i fors�get p� at komme op med en sammenh�ngende forklaring. “Ja, hvordan kan jeg hj�lpe?” “Jeg … jeg tror m�ske, jeg har h�rt noget … nogen …” begyndte Violet, stadig famlende. Hendes h�nder rystede lige s� meget som hendes stemme. “Det kom fra en af containerne nede p� havnen.” Alt for nemt Det er rigtig sv�rt at skrive en god efterf�lger til f�rste bind, som jeg i sin tid gav 6 stjerner at lutter begejstring, for nu har vi jo f�et banket scenariet p� plads. Vi kender Violets evner, vi ved at Jay, hendes for�ldre og onkel kender til dem, og Violet og Jay har ogs� allerede f�et hinanden som k�rester. Alligevel g�r det ikke f�rste tredjedel af bogen mindre sp�ndende, men da jeg kom halvvejs begyndte det alts� at blive sv�rt for Kimberly Derting at blive ved. Den sp�ndende del af handlingen g�r i st�, mens Violet gennemlever diverse personlige kriser, og beskrivelserne bliver ganske langtrukne. Samtidig opererer Kimberly Derting med et synsvinkel-skift til en hemmeligholdt person i begge b�ger. Da f�rste binds hemmelige person jo d�de, ved vi at denne bogs hemmelige person er en anden. Men Derting afsl�rer utrolig nok s� meget om personen, at man uden kl�gt ved at det kun kan v�re �n bestemt, og det tager alts� luften ud af historien. Desuden f�r Violets nye FBI-”venner” meget tidligt i historien ridset en teori op, som til min store �rgrelse viser sig at holde. �v, �v og tre gange �v. Forudsigeligt og helt uden overraskelser, for man l�rer ogs� ganske hurtigt, hvorn�r Kimberly Derting smider et falsk spor, som hun vil have, l�serne skal tro, er det rigtige, og hvorn�r hun giver os den rigtige gevinst. Tempoet skal op i 3. bind ‘Ekkoets forbandelse’ er dog virkelig velskrevet og bestemt v�rd at l�se, ikke mindst for den sindssygt sp�ndende f�rste del, men i n�ste bind af ‘Body Finder’ bliver Derting alts� n�dt til at �se meget mere rundh�ndet ud af b�de handlingselementer og overraskelser, da det bliver lidt tr�ttende at forl�sningen hele tiden skal holdes tilbage ved at Violet skiftevis trutter Jay i �ret eller n�gter at indvie ham i sine hemmeligheder.

When mom and dad disagree on schooling they sometime choose boarding school so they can get their children on their side in nasty divorces. Here is such a case. The daughter want to be with her mother. The father wants her to go to a boarding school where he can get professional help convincing the daughter to love him most. The boarding school had a boy dying there in 2009 so this place is no picnic. I have a test in a few hours, and I can’t really prepare myself better for it, and since I’m at school, I can’t watch glee, and therefore I just realised I can’t go on tumblr. Damn it.� But yesterday, well today at midnight, I learned my grades in the classes that I finish this year, and I’m pretty happy about them. And I only have one exam this year, and it’s not german, so I’m happy! I also have 3 end of the year tests, but they’re not important.� Right now, I just want to get this test over with, and go home and watch glee!�

Six-grader commits suicide in Faisalabad

In what appeared to be a shocking state of affairs, a sixth grade student committed suicide after he was allegedly abused by his teacher at a government school in Faisalabad. Eleven-year-old Muhammad Umar, a student of the MC High School Yaseen Abad, burnt himself to death after he was reportedly tortured at the hands of his teacher, Masood Siddiqui. The teacher asked the student to bring his father to the school if he wanted to attend classes but Umar?s father, Khalid, declined to accompany him to school. Sprinkling kerosene oil over his body, the schoolboy set himself on fire in front of his school, mocking our educational system. Although he was rushed to the Allied Hospital Faisalabad, he succumbed to injuries. According to Dr Nagra, the Burns Ward In charge, the student had received burn injuries over 90% of his body. Authorities of the Education Department immediately suspended the accused schoolteacher as well as the headmaster soon after the incident. EDO Education Sohaib claimed that Umar was an irregular student, who had a habit of bunking schools without any reason. He observed, ?I issued suspension orders of schoolteacher Masood Siddiqui and headmaster Ghulam Fareed with immediate effect. A committee has also been constituted to probe the matter?. In his view, it was not fault of the schoolteacher rather the father of the student, who refused to accompany him to school. Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif soon after the incident directed the health department as well as the DCO Faisalabad to take all appropriate measures to save the life of the schoolboy. DCO Faisalabad Naseem Sadiq said that the school administration would be dealt with iron hand if it is found guilty. In another incident, a 13-year-old girl attempted suicide by setting herself on fire in Faisalabad for not getting food on time. Shumaila, daughter of Variyam, a 6th grade student was admitted to Allied Hospital in a serious condition. According to the family sources, Shumaila came home from school on Friday and was shocked to know that the food kept for her had been taken by her brother Imran. Despite her requests, he did not share the food with her.

Worldfest at Frankfurt International School ? Award for Astrid Kastening

Last Sunday saw the annual Worldfest held at Frankfurt International School in Oberursel. This year the food from the 16 participating countries ranged from Coronation Chicken (Great Britain) to Kashk va bademjan (Iran) and from Kangaroo kebabs (Australia) to Falafel (Israel). I also discovered a new drink to try: Mango Lassi from India – a mixture of mango pur�e and yoghurt. One of the highlights of the afternoon was the presentation of the�Mark E. Ulfers Leadership Award to Astrid Kastening. The award is presented annually by the Chair of the Board of Trustees to a member of the school community who has demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities during the school year, and who has given him or herself to the betterment of others through selfless service, built bridges of understanding within the community through his or her collaborative efforts, demonstrated a high level of cross-cultural awareness and international perspective on issues within the school, created programs or led initiatives that have left a lasting impact at FIS, and empowered other leaders through shared decision making and supportive mentoring. Dr. Michael McKay presenting Astrid Kastening with the Mark E. Ulfers Leadership Award Astrid Kastening was chosen this year for her extensive work in a number of areas within the school, and several organisations outside it as well. In the school these included the Worldfest, Applefest, and 50th Anniversary Celebrations. In the wider community she has been raising funds for the Children’s Cancer Clinic in Frankfurt by organizing the front of house at the musical performances of Theatre Unlimited. She organised a UNICEF charity performance of the musical HONK at the English Theatre in Frankfurt in aid of earthquake stricken children in Haiti. She has raised funds to support children and their parents in two slum areas of Nairobi as a member of the church council of Trinity Lutheran Church in Frankfurt, and travelled there herself to learn about their needs. And more recently she has been working as a general manager of the Frankfurt foundation “Citoyen” supervising several multi-cultural projects and organizing a prize awarding individuals and initiatives which aim at improving the intercultural understanding in Frankfurt and the Rhein-Main area. The award was presented by Dr. Michael McKay, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the school. A sponsored walk to Oberstedten and back

Last Sunday saw a flurry of activity in the woods between the northern end of Oberursel and nearby Oberstedten.� Several hundred children and parents from the local Waldorf school were holding a sponsored walk to raise money for a school� in South Africa. Although the school itself borders on the area, the start was actually located some distance away in the woods itself – signs led those like myself who had gone to the school instead from the gates along a trail to get there. Once at the check-in point, the walk itself took a circuit that was about 1 km long, with the walkers being sponsored on a per-lap basis.� Over 300 people were expected to take part. The sponsorship money raised will be put to use in a project at the Dassenberg Waldorf School in South Africa who have had a partnership with the school in Oberursel for the past 15 years.� Previous projects have included equipment providing equipment for the playground, laying grass for a sports field, and even putting up buildings for specific subjects like woodwork.� Photos of these projects were on display, so there was plenty of incentive to complete as many laps as possible. However after the walk it is not a simple case of raising the money here and sending it to South Africa.� The sponsored walk was organised by year 12 pupils who will fly to Dassenberg at half term in the autumn to carry out the project themselves – with each pupil responsible for funding the cost of their own flight.
