<title>10 Reasons to Start An Online Business</title>
            <link>http://thesixfigurementorstour.com/4858/reasons-to-start-an-online-business/</link>
<description>&amp;#160; &amp;#160; &amp;#160; Starting an online business can be an extremely rewarding experience. We wanted to share our top 10 reasons why you should consider it if you&amp;#8217;re looking for time and financial freedom! &amp;#160; 1. Low Start-Up Cost If you were to start an offline business the chances are you&amp;#8217;d have the initial challenge of funding your idea. Initial start-up costs and overheads kill many offline businesses before they&amp;#8217;ve had a chance to flourish. Prime real estate is hard to come by and in most cases extremely expensive. Marketing your business will lap up all the money you have left and with limited sales, pressure will rise. Then maybe there&amp;#8217;s manufacturing costs, delivery and storage costs to consider, oh boy! Online business is different. You can start an online business with a relatively low investment. Get a domain name, get hosting, install wordpress, find a premium wordpress theme to showcase your business, add content, learn how to drive targeted traffic to you site and attract prospects &amp;#8211; all this is possible with minimum investment. You don&amp;#8217;t have to worry about large overheads, paying the rent on time or pressure to make sales to cover your costs. Choose to start an online business selling digital products or selling physical products as an affiliate for another company and you don&amp;#8217;t need to worry about manufacturing, delivery and storage costs. Selling digital products also commands a huge profit margin! There&amp;#8217;s virtually no risk in starting an online business if you take your ...</description>

            <link>http://marketingdebat.dk/npd-hardware-sales-hit-144-billion-in-2011-pcs-lead-the-moneymaking-pack/</link>
<description> Canalys recently announced that smartphone shipments surpassed those of PCs for the whole of 2011. Well, NPD&amp;#8217;s just released its own set of hardware numbers , this time focused on revenue shares, and it appears PCs (that&amp;#8217;s laptops and desktops for NPD&amp;#8217;s purposes) are still far and away the biggest moneymakers around, bringing in about 19 percent (or $28 billion) of the reported $144 billion in hardware sales last year. TVs, PCs and gaming hardware each saw a decline in revenue share while smartphone and tablet sales grew &amp;#8212; slates and e-readers experienced a five percent increase, taking up nearly 11 percent of the hardware pie and raking in $15 billion.

<description>The stats for the december usage of Read Later for Instapaper is in &amp;#8211; and it&amp;#8217;s looking better than ever.
There is an 42% increase in overall posted URLs &amp;#8211; which is very nice. Furthermore there is an increase in active users of ~2% &amp;#8211; not overwhelming - but very nice taking into account that this was over the holiday season.

<title>What are you trying to obfuscate?</title>
            <link>http://www.mardahl.dk/2012/01/29/what-are-you-trying-to-obfuscate/</link>
<description>I found two excellent posts on Paul Bradshaw&amp;#8217;s Online Journalism blog that I had to share. (Unless you&amp;#8217;ve already read them, in which case, great!)
In one post, he asks the £10,000 question: who benefits most from a tax threshold change? What wonderful real-life examples. Go read the article and see whether you can spot the difference in these charts. Take heed of his point about making the raw data available.
The other post discusses the means of presenting data. This builds on lessons learned from Dan Roam&amp;#8217;s &amp;#8220;The Back of the Napkin&amp;#8221; and Stephen Few&amp;#8217;s &amp;#8220;Now You See It&amp;#8221;. A rough summary reads: just because you can, doesn&amp;#8217;t mean you should.
Remember to think about the content. The content. What are you trying to tell the reader? What is appropriate or suitable for the situation? Are you actually trying to confuse them? Really??
Paul Bradshaw updated his article with this gem from a New York Times senior software architect entitled Word Clouds Can Be Harmful. It is a must-read. It includes the statement that you can whip out when someone asks you to make a fancy-schmancy visualization:

&amp;#8230;if it obliterates the ability to read the story of the visualization, it?s not worth adding some wild new visualization style or strange interface.

Ah, to think that attending a lecture by Paul Bradshaw last year could lead to such delight in reading these valuable blog posts.

Tak for det.

<title>The State of Social Media In The UK</title>
            <link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/mindjumpers/~3/i30YuxQvAow/</link>
<description>TweetBeginning of 2012 has brought in a lot of predictions and opportunities. Another chance to look at the social media universe, analyse the trends and make the strategies. But before starting this, it is always good to look back at how 2011 has been for our different sites and then go on to predict how it would be in future. I feel, these statistics can help you figure out which network has the right demographics for your brand, age and income group.
Our data sources for this article were Xposure and Nielson.
UK Facebook statistics

Facebook now has a reach of just over 30 million unique users for the UK. That means the proportion of the UK total population registered with the site is fast approaching 50%.

The demographic breakdown is even more interesting, though. 25-34 year olds are now the largest age group on Facebook as we enter 2012, with users under 17 years making up just 5% of the user base. Therefore, it is good to note that 95% of the population is adult age group.

Another important fact to note is that 42% of users claim to be in the £30k-£49,999 income bracket &amp;#8211; and the second most highly represented bracket is £50k plus, at 22%!

Therefore there is a great deal of potential for high-end luxury brands to meet their right customers base.
UK Twitter statistics:

Twitter has shown explosive growth this year, with the number of reported users more than doubling from 12 million to 26 million.
Twitter?s age profile is again dominated by the 25-44 age group, accounting for over 60% of users.

LinkedIn
LinkedIn also continues to grow, and now looks to reach around 10% of the UK population.
Its users have some way to go to be as dedicated as Facebook?s though, with an average visit lasting less than half the time spent on Facebook. It is also good to know that in terms of disposable income, LinkedIn has the highest percentage of people in the high income group.

Tumblr is another platform to watch, with major growth during 2011 and Nielson?s third quarter report putting it at #2 in the UK by page views.
Google+ made its debut to great excitement in 2011, According to socialtimes, the UK total user base is still under one million ? and globally, only 17% of those signing up become regular, active users.
The losers
Last.fm, Bebo and MySpace continue their steady decline, while image-sharing site Flickr maintains its user base of around four million.
