The small social network facebook.com has in just 5 years grown to become a 900 million user site and is today expected to set the record for an IPO. The IPO will start at 11am EST.  In Europe it is going to be around 8pm this Friday night, taking the traditional Friday night slot from TV entertainment shows like the talent show X-Factor or America’s Got Talent. All things considered, this Friday night entertainment is not that far from the ordinary talent show in comparison. The stock is going to open on $38 (launch price) and the closing is evaluated to end between $40-60. This could put the valuation (e.g. $54) on $135.7 billion. Keep in mind, that we are talking about a company with a yearly revenue of just below $4 billion ? to accomplish this valuation, a company has got to have a huge X-Factor. One of the interesting projects in predicting the stock price at market closing is created by Chris Sacca and James Proud. They have created a Wisdom of the Crowds project called Facebookipodayclosingprice.com gathering more than 1550 predictions from the valley?s top entrepreneurs, investors and analysts. As I?m typing, the site predicts a closing stock price at $54, the price mentioned in the above example. The X-Factor In the past month there has been a massive discussion about the expected valuation of Facebook through the IPO. Facebook and Zuckerberg have been on the road talking about the future and current state of the company for the past month too. Their focus has especially been on explaining how the company is going to be great for all mobile users and how the company is investing in the mobile space. Facebook?s announcements these past few months have made all of the f8 conferences look like boring tea parties: from new acquisitions, focus on mobile to testing new products like Highlights. The real X-Factors of Facebook are the 900 million users, being the largest social BDA (big data application) in the world and the fact that the company has experienced an explosive growth throughout its young life by the vision and passion from a charismatic young leader. Grabbles in the IPO machine However, there has been some grabble in the Facebook IPO hyping: the discussion of the revenue of $4 billion, which needs to become a whole lot more. One of the things that caught the attention was last week?s announcement from GM. They announced a cut on $10 million in their Facebook Ads spend budget due to insufficient effect from the, as of now, core Facebook product. In my humble opinion… If I had some cash to invest in the stock ? would I? From a short term perspective, the answer is no! On the short term, Facebook is  not going to increase their revenues fast enough to accommodate the fierce expectations from investors in my opinion ? but then I don’t believe this should be viewed as a short term investment. On the long term however, I have no doubt that it would be a really good investment. Facebook is here to stay, the point is not the platform but the integration into the web: Facebook is the corner stone of the social web. Companies and brands around the world are looking at Facebook and social media as a marketing investment. A few have forerunners who have seen what it’s all about: it’s about social business, it’s about turning social relationships and data into new and transformative business process with the aim of creating pure business value ? a larger net profit and a stronger company. Facebook is the biggest social BDA in the world and will remain on the throne for at least the next decade. For this reason alone, Facebook will always be a corner stone in the efforts when companies around the world start focusing on social business. The revenues might not be clear yet (someone at Facebook have probably an outline of something the business world is not yet ready to understand),  but I believe that on the long term Facebook will generate highly scalable product solutions that will enable double digit $ billion revenues. It has been more than two years that the Pro line has not received any substantial upgrades except the inclusion of the second-generation Core i-Series processors from Intel. In the rumours collected by source, MacBook Pro will be ultra-thin with a massive width shaved off the body, i.e. the cradle where the keyboard is located. This however, should not be confused with ultrabooks or MacBook Air, the Pro will retain the basic aesthetics of its predecessors but will be thinner. It will have a tapered design like the Air but there are certain features that it might adopt from its younger brother. The dedicated power button loses its position from the bezel into the jungle of keys as a part of the keyboard, like the Air. Moreover, it loses the optical drive like the Air. The reason for the Pro to lose an optical drive, be it DVD or Blu-Ray, makes sense. This had been a long time coming to the Pro as DVDs and other disc formats are losing their value, much less video and audio CDs. According to the source, the 2012 Pro will be the first notebook from Apple to have USB 3.0 in the chassis, and not one but three. Two thunderbolt I/O, one USB ports and an SD card slot will be on one side of the system, while the other side will house Power input, audio in and out jacks and two USB ports. Note that Apple is not providing any Ethernet or Fireware support in upcoming iteration of the Pro line. The new MacBook Pro will embrace the latest Ivy Bridge processors from Intel and the chipset is also touted to be brand new from Intel. The new Core i7 quad-core processor of the high-end laptop is said to have a clock speed of 2.7 GHz. The iMac has also been covered by the rumour initiator. According to it, the new all-in-one desktop from Apple will have the new Ivy Bridge processor as well, only this time it will be clocked at a massive 3.4 GHz. Moreover, iCloud is getting updates too. The clouding service from Apple is expected to get an upgrade in the sharing modules. We have already seen some updates and fixes to iCloud in the iOS 5.1.1 update last week. However, the new update will revamp the PhotoStream app on Apple devices and will allow multiple users to access the albums. The updates will also allow the app to share videos, the source suggested. Worldwide Developers? Conference (WWDC) this year is eyed to be the stage for the launch of new version of iOS, iOS 6. Although it has been less than a year since iOS 5 started operating, but experts all over the world are of the opinion that the release of new operating system is inevitable.
